The Guide Book to Read & Keep Handy on the DeskFeb 11, 2010 I've known the author, Patrick O'Keefe, for years. I've also managed online forums. Patrick shows you exactly how to run a successful and organized forum in this book.
Patrick shows you the things that you don't think of like problem users and managing a staff of moderators. I would highly recommend this as the "field guide" to managing any public forum or message board. If you run a forum and have any higher up moderators/admins this would be a great buy for them, too. There are many things that most people wouldn't think of when it comes to running a forum and Patrick covers them in the book.
Great BookJan 27, 2010 This book is a must have for anyone either considering to run a forum or a person who already runs a forum. Great real life experiences and ideas shared for building, engaging, and properly managing a community. Although I read through it once, this is definitely a book that will serve as a manual that I revisit several times because there is so much actionable information contained in the text. I'd definitely recommend this book.
Top Notch Read for Forum OwnersDec 31, 2009 There aren't very many books made for forum & community administrators, but this book is the must read for anyone who wants to start a forum, and even those who already have one. Patrick does a great job at breaking down the many challenges and questions that forum owners often face. He gives sound advice on forum guidelines and even gives you a working example that you are free to use. While existing forum owners may not agree with every suggestion Patrick gives, all of his thoughts are backed up with well thought out reasons.
Not what I was looking forSep 08, 2009 I am starting a forum and needed something to talk me through start to finish. If that is what you want this is not the book for you. I guess I should have read more about what it was about before ordering. It seems to be geared more to the person that knows how to operate a forum but wishes to do so more efficiently.
A Must for Anyone Managing Any Type of Online CommunitySep 06, 2009 O'Keefe's book is a must for anyone wishing to run online communities, but especially online forums. A more apt title would be "The Community Manager's Bible."
"Managing Online Forums" offers practical advice for managing online communities, dealing with various personalities, spam, legal issues and so much more. Two great big thumbs up.
